Why in-home training?

One-on-one attention from a professional dog trainer allow you and your dog learn faster with less frustration.

Your dog can be observed and trained in his "natural environment" where most of his behavior, both desirable and undesirable occurs.

Advice and exercises can be tailored to your actual living situation as well as you and your dog's needs and abilities.

You and your dog are more at ease and can focus better without the excitement of traveling to training facility and encountering all its unfamiliar sights, noises and smells.

You can maintain control over the comfort and safety of your dog since he continues to live in your home.

Appointments can be scheduled to fit your lifestyle.

Sessions can be held in other locations after teaching the behavior at home, following an important rule of animal training, "establish a behavior in a low distraction environment before attempting to generalize it to multiple environments."

Counseling/Training Sessions

Sessions are a mix of counseling and problem-solving, hands-on work with your dog, and coaching you and other members of your household while you work with the dog.  They are one hour long and include a follow-up email and telephone support at no charge.

Location

Sessions generally take place in and around your home. At times, sessions may be held in other locations so that particular challenges may be reproduced.

Who Participates

Family participation is encouraged so that everyone has the opportunity to work with the dog and so that the exercises can be adapted to each person's interest and abilities. However, sessions can often be structured so that initially just the primary handler works with the trainer and others in the household join in later.

Fee

The consultation fee is $95 but be sure to check for applicable discounts. Your effective rate could be reduced by as much as 40%!

Initial Behavior Consultation

To allow plenty of time to take a case history, observe and evaluate your dog and also work directly with you and your dog, initial consultations are normally 1.5 hours. However, to encourage you to get started (see When to Start), they are charged as a single hour.

Midday Training Visits

A professional trainer comes to your home during the day and works directly with your dog.  This is quickest route to a well-trained dog. It can also greatly help dogs and puppies who need a break during the day or owners who just want less to deal with after a long day at work. To maximize time-effectiveness by not exceeding your dog's attention span, these visits can be 45 minutes long ($50) or 30 minutes long ($40). Again, check the discounts. Your effective rate could be reduced by 25%.
